"She doesn't. But she is a typical white person who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, there's a reaction that's been bred into our experiences that don't go away , and that sometimes comes out in the wrong way, and that's just the nature of race in our society."

Rather than focusing on the racial slur of "typical white person," I'd like to touch on the idea that reactions are "bred" into our experiences and that this is just the nature of race in our society.

I don't find this true at all. When young children of all races are put together on a playground, they are color-blind.

Secondly, why did Obama replace "black man" with "someone on the street that she doesn't know"? There is nothing racial about "someone on the street" that someone doesn't know.

Considering he and his wife have chosen to take their children to a church run by a Reverand with old-fashioned, race-hating beliefs, what does he think he is going to breed in his children?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3173562416509990686.post-21882252668825895142008-03-21T17:07:00.000-04:002008-03-21T17:07:00.000-04:00Barack Obama's speech on Tuesday was so perfect. And I went back to it because I knew that he had addressed precisely this most recent attempt to seize on his "gaffe": "Talk show hosts and conservative commentators built entire careers unmasking bogus claims of racism while dismissing legitimate discussions of racial injustice and inequality as mere political correctness or reverse racism."

Every time someone brings up Rev. Wright in the general election (and they will, repeatedly) we need to have the transcript of this speech ready in response.
trueblueliberal.orgTrue Blue Liberalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09304569696691885677noreply@blogger.com
