His stated policies are bad for the United States and the world. He gets a lot more credit from the media than he deserves. From all accounts, he's not a very good person. So why does every criticism of John McCain have to be about his age? This isn't any more acceptable than stereotyping Sen. Clinton by sex or Sen. Obama by race.

You're right, and it's one of those things that has been getting on my nerves lately--Colbert is beating that dead horse a lot on his show, and it's getting tiresome.
That said, McCain's age is a legitimate topic for discussion when it comes to whether or not one should support him for the Presidency, because the last time we had someone around his age in office, he spent the last 18 months of his second term without the full use of his faculties. That ought to be a consideration when it comes to choosing someone to be in charge--had Mike Gravel not been sort of loony on other issues (like the Fair Tax thing, for example), his age would have probably disqualified him in my eyes. It's a taxing job, and a younger person is probably better for it, at least to me.
